Gems

Sometimes you just have to share them.

Here is the first one, shared by Alisha Geary:

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." -- Groucho Marx

Second one, contributed by my Ethics professor's daughter:

"Yeah, Bella Swan has a choice to make. She's choosing between necrophilia and beastiality."

Third one comes from my daughter Cyndal, during our discussion about the dangers of popular music:

"My friend asked me to go to a Lady GaGa concert with her. I said, 'No way! I hate her.' My friend said, 'Why? What's wrong with her?' I told her, 'Lady GaGa is crazy. She wears... meat... clothes.'"

Here is a photo she took of me and Calista. It makes me smile:

Book Review - On Writing

On Writing by Stephen King

I have been told by several writers that I admire to read this book. "This is the best book on writing you'll ever read!"

So, yeah.

It's fantastic.

It's specific and succinct.

It has everything you need to know about writing a novel.

Read it!

Publishing

I found out yesterday that the university press is publishing three of my pieces this semester in their speculative fiction anthology, Warp & Weave. One is a short story called Eric, one is a poem called Small Robot and one is this photo:

I will let you know if there's a reading!

w00t.

In other news, I know I haven't posted a book review for a while. I still read every day, it's just a lot of studying and research and I'm working on my manuscript more. So, I am reading On Writing by Stephen King, it's pretty amazing. Christian and I talked about it last night. Am I the only writer who hasn't read this? Probably. Anyway, thank you Geary, it's a wonderful book!
